The free app can already be found in the Business category of the Apple iTunes App Store. It allows users to search the entire ICI Paints AkzoNobel portfolio of products – including paints and woodcare – acting as a one-stop-shop for information on decorative coatings for appliers.

Users can browse all of the paint manufacturer’s brands in one go, giving access to brands including Dulux Trade, Glidden Trade, Sikkens, Dulux Trade Woodcare, Cuprinol Trade, and Polycell Trade. The app also provides a store locator that uses Google Maps, a Favourites feature for easy access to stores and products, and a Tasks wizard that allows the user to navigate to products suited to the job they are working on!

The app functions in a similar way to another of YARG’s apps ‘Advisors2Go’, and demonstrates YARG’s ability to leverage its deep knowledge of not only building directory style apps, but also its understanding of the needs of international membership and associations sector. Kreston was built in just five weeks and launched a week later in the App Store under the Kreston International brand name.

Available to download in the ‘Business category’ of the App Store, Kreston allows its users to search for and contact accounting firms all over the world and to view over 500 Kreston office locations on Google maps. The app uses the slick features of the iPhone OS to enable users to call and email Kreston’s accountants, forward their details to a friend, and add them to their own iPhone Contacts.

Advisors2Go is the first app of its kind to be launched by an international network or association of independent professional firms. The app is being used by MSI to improve communications between its professional members in 105 countries, and takes advantage of the powerful iPhone platform to enable members to email each other, view each others’ profiles, save the partners’ contact details to their iPhone address book and forward their valued MSI contacts to friends and clients. MSI also hopes to use the app to build awareness of its brand among business iPhone users and expects to make significant cost savings given the cost of printing thousands of directories.

This is quite an achievement given that only 8 apps enjoy this priviledge at any one time, and provides great publicity that will generate many downloads.  Apps are chosen to appear in this particular spotlight if they are deemed to be original, well designed and offer interesting functionality – Advisors2Go certainly certainly meets all of those criteria with its built-in Google Maps, 1,000+ firm and people profiles,  in-app video and slick sharing and emailing features. When YARG are developing Apps for clients we allow them to test the App before it’s submitted to the iTunes App Store.   Apple call this process Ad Hoc Distribution and they allow you to distribute your test App file to up to 100 devices.

So how do you get the App onto you iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch?

Well the first thing we need to do is to get the unique ID for each test device so we can build a version of the App against those IDs.  The easiest way to get the ID is to download one of the many free Apps out there.  We have our own App, ‘My Device ID’, which is available in the App Store.

All you have to do is simply tap App Icon on your device.  The App will load up and it will automatically create an email containing the ID that we need.  Please just then send the email off to your YARG contact.

Ok a new version of the App has been built, how do I install it?

 One of our account managers will send you two files:

• The .zip file for the application (usually AppName.app.zip)
• The .mobileprovision file for the application (usually something.mobileProvision)

To install the App you will need to first connect your device to the version of iTunes you normally Sync with and then follow the instructions below:

• Open up iTunes
• Drag-and-drop the .mobileprovision file into Library -> Applications in iTunes.
• Unzip the .zip file and you will see a AppName.app folder
• Drag-and-drop the AppName.app folder into into Library -> Applications in iTunes.
• In iTunes, select your Device under Devices, choose the Application tab and make sure that your new Application is checked under the Sync options.
• Sync the device and your new App should be installed on the device.

If we send you another App to test we would recommend that you delete the old version from your device first and then repeat the above steps.  Also the above process is the same whether you’re a YARG customer or not.
